Baltimore Club

This is a track from two of the best, youngest and most promising producers in Baltimore Rip Knoxx and Tonio from the crew Dem 808z, a crew that also includes club producer Matic and rising Baltimore rapper Tate Kobang. This track is typical of Rip Knoxx tracks in that in there is a heavy contrast between light airy samples and keyboards, and super heavy, knocking club music that’s filled with “Whats” and “Heys”. Unlike any other club producers I can think of, the vocal samples are all pitched to match the key the of the samples and instruments which always seems to an eerie minor harmonic.

This is an exclusive the french label Moveltraxx sent us off the remix EP they released for Chicago rapper Mista Wish. The original is footwork-influenced radio-rap track produced by DJ Nephets that’s been getting some airplay in the Midwest. As usual, the legendary Scottie B slays the track. No one in the club game can make just “think” break and and Bass Drum sound so good. Parts of this track remind me of his classic “Niggaz Fightin’“. Even the synths he chops for the remix sound similar to the horn sample in “Niggaz Fightin’”, but there is definitely something new going on too. The build up before the “Heys” drop around 1:30 is ridiculous.
